Interpreters and lawyers: an interprofessional dialogue

The 5th Annual Legal Interpreting Symposium (UNSW) will be dedicated to the interprofessional dialogue between interpreters and lawyers. Its aim is to further the cooperation between these two professions, leading up to a greater understanding of each other’s needs and improved interactions in legal and courtroom settings. Organised by the Interpreting & Translation Discipline Group and the Law School.

Attendance is by invitation only. The event will be available to all as a live broadcast, follow the event by searching for UNSW 5th Symposium on Legal Interpreting on YouTube on 23 April 2015.

09:40- 10:55 – Interprofessional dialogue between interpreters and lawyers.

Moderator: Professor Kathy Laster, Director of the Sir Zelman Cowen Centre at Victoria University:

11:05 – 12:00 – Q & A discussion with the participation of the expert audience

With the participation of interpreting and legal practitioners, and representatives from AUSIT, AUTIF, NAATI, Multicultural NSW and private and government interpreter agencies.

12:00 – 12:20 – Summary and recommendations. Discussant Dr Uldis Ozolins.

12:20 -12:30 – Closing address by the Hon. Senator Concetta Fierravanti-Wells, Parliamentary Secretary to the Minister for Social Services.
