Public Reason Workshop

This workshop will canvass a range of issues raised in contemporary discussions of public reason and public justification. These will include:

  • Public reason, public sphere and pragmatics of communication
  • Rawls and the history of concepts of public reason
  • Social conditions for the development of public reason
  • The discipline of public reason and the threat of polarisation
  • The mutability of public reason
  • Public reason and economic justice
  • Discursive standing, reasonableness and inclusivity
  • Religion and public reason
